14 – 18 years

Explorer Scouts are members of an Explorer Scout Unit. In SW Notts there are five Explorer Units, one of which (Sharman) specializes in training Explorer Scouts as Young Leaders.

Explorers are encouraged to lead themselves. They invariably choose their own programme of activities and the direction of the Unit, with support and guidance from leaders. As a result, there is wider scope for activities like offshore sailing, campaigning, performing, parascending, mountaineering and expeditions and more…

The section also includes the Young Leaders’ Scheme, where young people are able to take on a leadership role in one of the younger sections.

Explorer Scouts are encouraged to register and participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme with the chance to work towards their Queen’s Scout as well.

Explorer Scouts can be members of multiple Explorer Units, which enables them to take on a diverse programme of activities.
